Is it pop art, dadaism, postmodernism, or performance art?
This artwork not only embodies the ephemeral and the ubiquitous, but is arguably created only once hung.
The artist combines the medium of spray paint – whose permanence is paradoxically temporary; with the immutable and ever present “TEMPORARY” road sign. But it is context that gives this piece its curious contemporary flavour.
Once hung it takes on new meaning.
The viewer is asked to consider tagging as an artistic expression and the perceived public property not only as the canvas, but its familiarity as intrinsic to the success of this artwork.
